【history】
The native inhabitants were the San (Bushmen), but from around the 7th century, Bantu African tribes migrated south from the north and settled there. Around the 14th century, the Monomotapa Kingdom (Mwene Mutapa) of the Karanga people, a part of the Shona people, ruled a large territory spanning what is now Mozambique and Zimbabwe. The Monomotapa Kingdom prospered through gold trade with the Arabs, who settled on the coast.
