There are various routes for pilgrimage to Oyama Afuri Shrine (present-day Isehara City, Kanagawa Prefecture), which is located on the summit of Mt. Oyama in Sagami. From Edo, the Tokaido and Yagurasawa Highway (commuting roads) were often used. From the Tokaido, there are routes from Shimokasuo in Musashi Province and Tamura in Sagami Province to Oyama, and from the Odawara area, there are routes that pass through Tako, Tanaka, Otake, etc. to Minoge or Sakamoto. From the Yagurasawa Highway, the route from Isehara to Sakamoto via Mizonoguchi in Musashi Province, Tsuruma, Atsugi, etc. in Sagami Province is often used, and the name Oyama Highway remains on National Route 246 even today. There is also a route that goes south from Musashi Hachioji and passes through Kamikasuya in Sagami. In the late Edo period, people would sometimes travel by boat to ports such as Kanagawa, Misaki, and Suga and then head to Mt. Oyama. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
