Italian literary magazine. Founded in 1959 by Einaudi in Turin, E. Vittorini worked with I. Calvino on the general cultural magazine Politecnico (1945-47) and the literary series Jettoni (1951-58), Vittorini had been questioning the responsibilities of literature and culture in postwar Italian society, which had experienced fascism and the Resistance. With the 1960s fast approaching, he felt the need to pursue the responsibilities of a new literature in an advanced industrialized and internationalized society, and so he decided to launch the magazine Menabo as a base for this pursuit.
