Jamal-ul Kiram II

…a memorandum of understanding signed on March 22, 1915, between Jamal-ul Kiram II, the 27th Sultan of the Sulu Kingdom, and Frank W. Carpenter, the Director of Mindanao-Sulu Province of the Philippine Archipelago Government of the United States. In this agreement, Kiram II renounced all secular power and retained only religious authority.
