Collective unconscious

Japanese: 普遍的無意識 - ふへんてきむいしき（英語表記）collective unconscious

A term in analytical psychology created by Jung. It can also be translated as "collective unconscious." Jung divided the unconscious into the "personal unconscious" and the "universal unconscious." The former is strongly personal, such as forgotten conscious contents that have lost their intensity, or contents that have been repressed by consciousness, while the universal unconscious is deeper and is a universal layer common to all of humanity. S. Freud's concept of the unconscious primarily emphasized the characteristics of the former, so Jung's theory was not included, which was one of the reasons for the separation of the two.

ユングによる分析心理学の用語。〈集合的無意識〉とも訳す。ユングは無意識を〈個人的無意識personal unconscious〉と〈普遍的無意識〉に分けて考える。前者は個人の意識内容が強度を失って忘却されたものや，意識によって抑圧された内容など，個人的色彩が強いのに対して，普遍的無意識はそれよりも深く，人類に共通の普遍的な層である。S.フロイトの無意識概念がもっぱら前者の特質を強調するものであったので，ユングの説はいれられず，両者の分離の一因ともなった。
