hot pursuit

…the right of a coastal state to pursue and seize a foreign ship in its internal waters, archipelagic waters (in the case of an archipelagic state), territorial sea, and, in some circumstances, in its contiguous zone, exclusive economic zone, or superjacent waters of the continental shelf, when the coastal state has sufficient reason to believe that the ship has violated the laws of the coastal state. This pursuit is also called the right of hot pursuit, since it must begin when the foreign ship is in the coastal state's waters and continue uninterrupted until it is on the high seas. The right of hot pursuit ceases when the pursued ship enters the territorial waters of its flag state or of a third state. …
