〘Noun〙① A small silk bag containing paste incense that is hung to ward off bad odors and evil spirits in a room. 〘名〙① 室内の臭気や邪気を払うため、練り香を小さな絹袋に入れて掛けて置くもの。古くはインド、中国の僧にこの風があった。《季・夏》※俳諧・新増犬筑波集（1643）油糟「袋はふたつ空にぶらぶらかけがうをせどと門(かど)とにかけ置て」② 汗のにおいなどを防ぐため、小さな絹袋に入れ、くびにかけたり左右の袖に入れて携帯する香料。主として女性が用いた。掛袋。《季・夏》〔日葡辞書（1603‐04）〕※俳諧歳時記（1947）〈山本俊太編〉夏「掛香カケカウ」[補注]現代俳句では「かけこう」と清音で扱われることが多い。
