Otoneriryo

Japanese: 大舎人寮 - おおとねりりょう
Otoneriryo

It was one of the ryo-sei government offices and was a vassal of the Nakatsukasa Ministry. In 673 (the second year of Emperor Tenmu's reign), Daitonari appeared, and in 686 (the first year of Shucho's reign), Sadaka and Ugidaitonari appeared. According to the Yoroi Personnel Order, it was divided into Sadaka and Ugidaitonari offices, each consisting of one head, one assistant, one Dai and Shonosuke, one Dai and Shojo, and 800 Daitonari. The head was responsible for commanding the Daitonari and accompanying the Emperor, and was in charge of the list of Daitonari, grouping of shift work, night duty, etc. The regulations stipulated that Daitonari should be appointed from among the most capable descendants of the fifth rank or higher, or the legitimate sons of the sixth rank or lower and eighth rank or higher. The head was an official equivalent to Junior Fifth Rank Upper, but was often appointed by various kings, including Prince Oi in 738 (Tenpyo 10). In 808 (Daido 3), the Sa and Uburyo were merged to become the Daitonari, and in 819 (Kōnin 10), the number of Daitonari was halved to 400.
