…Years of birth and death unknown. In English, he is called Homer. He was regarded by the ancients as the greatest poet, so much so that the word "poet" immediately refers to him. His two great epics, as the national epics of ancient Greece, had an immeasurable influence on literature, religion, thought, art, and so on.
