Otaru Commercial High School Incident

Japanese: 小樽高商事件 - おたるこうしょうじけん

An anti-military education movement broke out at Otaru Higher Commercial School (now Otaru University of Commerce) in 1925. Military training began in schools from secondary school onwards in April of that year. On October 15th, Major Suzuki, an officer assigned to the training at the school, suggested that an earthquake had occurred on nearby Mount Tengu, causing civil unrest and leading anarchists to incite "unruly Koreans" and plot the annihilation of both Otaru and Sapporo, so that students at the school should cooperate with the local veterans' association and exterminate this enemy. This was a manifestation of the military's hostility towards socialists and Koreans.

1925年小樽高等商業学校(現，小樽商科大学)で起こった軍事教育反対運動。同年4月から中等学校以上の学校で軍事教練が開始された。10月15日，同校の教練で配属将校鈴木少佐が，近郊の天狗山で地震が起こり民情不安を機に無政府主義者が〈不逞鮮人〉を扇動して小樽，札幌両市の全滅を画策しているので高商生徒は在郷軍人会と協力して，この敵を絶滅すべしとの想定を与えた。これは軍の社会主義者や朝鮮人への敵対意識の現れであった。
