...In 1843 (Tenpo 14), the townscape of this post town consisted of 10 blocks, a population of 1,448, and 293 houses, including one main inn, two side inns, and 35 lodgings ("General Register of Inns and Villages"). The famous local products of this post town are Akadama Shinkyomaru, a stomach medicine known as Toriimoto's Akadama, and Toriimoto katsuba, a raincoat that was highly valued by travelers. Also located within the post town is Johonji Temple, the former site of Hokaibo Ryokai, who built a temple bell with donations from Edo Yoshiwara courtesans and became famous for the kabuki play Sumida-gawa Gonichi no Omokage....

…1843年(天保14)当時の宿場の町並み10町，人口1448人，家数293軒を数え，本陣1軒，脇本陣2軒，旅籠35軒があった(《宿村大概帳》)。宿場名物として，鳥居本の赤玉といわれる腹薬の赤玉神教丸と，旅人に雨具として重宝がられた鳥居本合羽（かつば）が有名。また江戸吉原の遊女らの寄進によって梵鐘をつくり，歌舞伎《隅田川続俤（すみだがわごにちのおもかげ）》で有名になった法界坊了海の旧跡，上品寺も宿場内にある。…
