The Iliad and the Odyssey that we possess today are both works of 24 volumes each, composed of lines of poetry called hexametros (hexameter), the former being 15,693 lines and the latter 12,110 lines, but not a single piece of information about the author can be found in these vast volumes. For this reason, even in ancient times, Homer was shrouded in the mist of legend, and various theories were put forward about his dates, life, achievements, etc.
