Akikage Uesugi

...A feudal lord in the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo periods. Son of Nagao Masakage, lord of Ueda-sho in Uonuma County, Echigo (Muikamachi, Minami-Uonuma County). After his father's sudden death in 1564 (Eiroku 7), he was taken under the protection of his uncle Uesugi Kenshin, and later adopted. His childhood name was Umatsu, and Kihei Akikage, and in 1575 (Tensho 3) he changed his name to Kagekatsu. When his foster father Kenshin suddenly died in March 1578, he took up residence in Kasugayama, claiming it was his will, and fought against Kagetora (the son of Hojo Ujiyasu and Kenshin's adopted son), who was based in the Otate residence of the former Kanto Kanrei Uesugi Norimasa (Otate War). At first, he was not necessarily in a favorable position, but the following year he defeated Kagetora, and the year after that he subjugated the anti-Kagekatsu faction. ...

…安土桃山･江戸初期の大名。越後魚沼郡上田庄(南魚沼郡六日町)の領主長尾政景の子。1564年(永禄7)父の急死後，叔父上杉謙信の庇護をうけ，のち養子となった。幼名卯松，喜平次顕景，75年(天正3)景勝と改名。78年3月養父謙信が急逝すると遺言と称して春日山に拠り，前関東管領上杉憲政の御館（おたて）に拠る景虎(北条氏康の子で謙信の養子)と戦う(御館の乱)。最初は必ずしも有利でなかったが，翌年には景虎を倒し，翌々年には反景勝派を平定した。…
