...and from this trend, a cult that worshipped both the Fates and Zeus as the Moiragetēs, the leader of the Fates, arose in the 5th century BC. Fate came to be expressed primarily by the term heimarmenē (hē heimarmenē moira, meaning predestined fate) from the 4th century BC onwards, and at the same time it gained a more deterministic character. It came to be seen as a chain of necessary causes.
