Mr. Osuga

Japanese: 大須賀氏 - おおすがうじ

A powerful clan in Shimousa in the Middle Ages. The Chiba clan of the Taira surname. It began with Tanenobu, the fourth son of Chiba no Suke Tsunetane. Tanenobu served as the vanguard in Minamoto no Yoritomo's conquest of Oshu, and in the rear guard in the battle to eliminate Hatakeyama Shigetada. His descendants were active as one of the Chiba Rokuto, based in Osukaho, Katori County, Shimousa Province (present-day Daiei Town, Katori County, Chiba Prefecture). They also held land in Kamiya-go, Koshimasho, Iwaki County, Mutsu. Tanenobu's grandson Taneuji, under orders from the Kamakura shogunate, attacked and defeated Chiba Hidetane, who was implicated in the Battle of Hoji (1247), at Kazusa Ichinomiya. During the Nanboku-cho and Muromachi periods, the main branch of the Chiba family declined, but they remained active as influential figures in Chiba clan uprisings, serving as deputy governors, and during the Uesugi Zenshū Rebellion, they sided with Zenshū, and in October 1416 (Oei 23) they marched out to battle at Yonemachi-omote in Kamakura as part of the Chiba clan. During the Battle of Yuki in March 1440 (Eikyō 12), Osuga Echigo-no-kami joined the Yuki side in a plot to revive the Kanto kubo.

中世下総の豪族。平姓千葉氏族。千葉介常胤の四男胤信から始まる。胤信は源頼朝の奥州征伐に際して先鋒を，畠山重忠討滅戦に際して後陣を務めた。子孫は下総国香取郡大須賀保(現，千葉県香取郡大栄町)を根拠に千葉六党の一つとして活躍。陸奥磐城郡好島荘紙谷郷にも所領をもつ。胤信の孫胤氏は鎌倉幕府の命により宝治合戦(1247)に連座した千葉秀胤を上総一宮に攻め滅ぼした。南北朝･室町時代に千葉宗家は衰えたが，千葉一族一揆中の有力者として守護代を務めるなどして活動，上杉禅秀の乱に際しては禅秀側に属し，1416年(応永23)10月千葉一門中として鎌倉米町表に出陣，40年(永享12)3月結城合戦に際しては大須賀越後守が関東公方の復活を策して結城側に参戦した。
