Habura (English spelling)

Japanese: Habūra(英語表記)Habura
Habura (English spelling)

In British India, the term was defined as a group of thieves consisting of five or more people working together, but their characteristics, members, and activities are diverse, and they are not limited to simple thieves. They included political bandit groups such as Tantia Bhil, who was likened to the Robin Hood of India and was captured in 1889, Pindari and Sagu, who continued to fight against the British, and specific tribes such as Habūra in North India, Maravan and Kallan in South India, who served as village and livestock guards or traded salt and grain. Dacoits are still active around Agra in the 1980s and are a major security problem, but there are many unknowns about their organization and activities.
