...A large fault that forms the boundary between the Inner Zone (northern side) and the Outer Zone (southern side) of Southwest Japan. It was named Grosse Medianspalte by E. Naumann (1893). This fault runs from near Yatsushiro in Kumamoto Prefecture, through the northern part of the Saganoseki Peninsula in Oita Prefecture, through the Yoshino River in Shikoku, crosses the Kii Peninsula along the Kino River, crosses from Ise to the Atsumi Peninsula, runs north-northeast along the west of the Akaishi Mountains to the Chubu region, and reaches the vicinity of Lake Suwa in Nagano Prefecture.
