Isophthalic acid

...It is an aromatic dicarboxylic acid with two carboxyl groups on the benzene ring, and there are three isomers: o- , m- , and p- . Phthalic acid usually refers to the o -isomer, while the m -isomer is called isophthalic acid and the p -isomer is called terephthalic acid.

It is a colorless crystal with a melting point of 191°C (in a sealed tube), and is dehydrated near the melting point to produce phthalic anhydride.
