Japanese: 大阪狭山[市] - おおさかさやま

A city in southern Osaka Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1987. It has long developed as an agricultural region, centered around the old alluvial fan of the Amano River. Rice is produced, and mandarin oranges and grapes are cultivated in the hills. The Nankai Electric Railway Koya Line runs through the city, and in recent years it has become significantly developed into a residential area, with the construction of Sayama New Town. It is home to Sayama Pond (circumference 2.9 km), Japan's oldest irrigation reservoir, said to have been built during the reign of Emperor Suinin, and is famous for its azaleas and cherry blossoms. Area: 11.92 ^km2 . Population: 58,227 (2010).
