...Dephosphorization and desulfurization were not possible, and therefore only pig iron with low phosphorus and sulfur content could be used. The Bessemer process was first industrialized on July 18, 1858, when Sweden's G.F. Göransson (1819-1900) succeeded in producing high-quality converter steel from charcoal pig iron made from Dannemora ore, which is low in phosphorus and sulfur and high in manganese. Bessemer also initially used Swedish pig iron, but later produced high-quality Bessemer pig iron from hematite (hematite) from Cumberland in England and Bilbao ore from Spain, marking the beginning of large-scale development of the Bessemer process.
