Shibamata

This area faces the Edogawa River in the eastern part of Katsushika Ward, Tokyo. It is a lowland area between the Edogawa and Nakagawa rivers, and was once called Shimamata because of the islands scattered around the inlet. It was later written as Shibamata or Shibamata, and became known as a temple town for Daikyo-ji Temple (Shibamata Taishakuten), which was founded in 1629 (Kan'ei 6). In addition to Taishakuten, the area is also known for Shibamata Hachimansha Shrine, Yagiri no Watashi Ferry, and river fish cuisine. The area is served by the Keisei Electric Railway Kanamachi Line, which starts at Kanamachi Station on the JR Joban Line, and the Hokuso Railway Hokuso Line.

東京都葛飾区(かつしかく)東部、江戸川に臨む地区。江戸川・中川間の低地で、古くは入り江でいくつかの島が点在したことから嶋俣(しままた)とよばれ、その後、柴俣、芝又と記され、1629年（寛永6）創建の題経寺(だいきょうじ)（柴又帝釈天(たいしゃくてん)）の門前町として知られるようになった。帝釈天のほか柴又八幡社(はちまんしゃ)、矢切の渡し(やぎりのわたし)、川魚料理で親しまれている。JR常磐(じょうばん)線金町(かなまち)駅を起点とする京成(けいせい)電鉄金町線と、北総鉄道北総線が通る。
