...Some swallowtail and ostrich butterflies have different markings depending on the season, which is called seasonal polymorphism. When a polymorphic trait is hereditary, as in the case of ABO blood types in humans, it is generally called genetic polymorphism. In a population, mutations arise in every generation, so strictly speaking, there are almost always two or more genotypes, but if the mutants exist only at a low frequency, it is not called genetic polymorphism.
