...The balalaika is a new instrument that appeared in the 18th century. In the 1930s, the accordion came to Russia and became extremely popular under the name of garmon' (the bayan was its perfected form), and along with the balalaika, it has become one of the most representative modern folk instruments. The domra is an old name, but the current instrument was restored in the 19th century and is also known as the Russian mandolin.
