King of the throne

The second king of the Zhou Dynasty in China. He lived around the 11th century BC. He was the son of King Wu. His name was Zhou. He ascended to the throne at a young age, so his uncle, the Duke of Zhou, became regent. At this time, Wu Geng Lufu, a member of the Yin royal family, and King Wu's sons who were given the titles of Guan and Cai rebelled. The Duke of Zhou and Duke Shao put down this rebellion, and then launched a large expedition to the east. After returning home, he built the eastern capital at Luoyi in Henan, making it a key location for the eastern lords (it is also said that King Cheng moved the capital there). After seven years of regency, the Duke of Zhou returned governance to King Cheng. During the reign of King Cheng, he carried out large-scale feudal enactments for noble clansmen from Song (Wei Ziqi), Lu (Boqin), Wei (Kangshu), and Jin (Tangshu), and with the assistance of the Duke of Zhou and Duke Shao, the foundations of the Zhou dynasty are said to have been established.

中国、周王朝第2代の王。紀元前11世紀ごろの人。武王の子。名は誦。幼年で即位したので叔父の周公旦(たん)が摂政(せっしょう)となった。このとき殷(いん)の王族である武庚禄父(ぶこうろくほ)および武王の子で管、蔡(さい)に封ぜられた者たちが反乱を起こした。周公は召公とともにこれを鎮定し、さらに東方の大遠征を行い、帰国後、河南の洛邑(らくゆう)に東都を築き、東方諸侯の重鎮とした（成王が遷都したともいう）。周公は摂政7年で成王に政(まつりごと)を返還したという。成王のときに、宋(そう)（微子啓(びしけい)）、魯(ろ)（伯禽(はくきん)）、衛（康叔(こうしゅく)）、晋(しん)（唐叔(とうしゅく)）など一族功臣の大封建を行い、周公、召公の補佐もあって、周王朝の基礎が確立されたという。
