…At a depth of about 20 to 30 meters, an unconformity is seen between the upper and lower layers, the lower part being due to a transgression in the Late Glacial Period (about 20,000 to 10,000 years ago), and the upper part being due to a transgression in the Postglacial Period (after about 10,000 years ago), the latter being the Jomon transgression. The Yurakucho transgression is said to correspond to the Flandrian transgression, which has the Flanders Marine Formation in northern France as its type site. There, too, the highest peak was 3 to 4 meters above present sea level during the Postglacial climatic optimum, indicating the global nature of the transgression. …
