Felis catus (English spelling) Feliscatus

...Generally, it refers to domestic cats, i.e. house cats, but in a broad sense it is used as a general term for mammals of the Felidae family of the carnivora order.
[Domestication of house cats]
The history of domestication of the domestic cat ( Felis catus ) is second only to that of the dog, and is believed to be the domestication of the African wild cat, which is found from Africa to India. The domestication of cats began when humans took advantage of the opportunity to prey on rodents living near human settlements and to scavenge for carrion, and humans played a passive, rather than active, role in the emergence of the domestic cat.
