...The juvenile novel also followed T. Hughes's Tom Brown's Schoolday (1857), R. Ballantine's Coral Island (1857), Ouida's A Dog of Flanders (1872), and A. Sewell's The Black Horse (1877), and was completed with R. L. Stevenson's Treasure Island (1883). Stories dealing with fictional worlds include J. Ingereau's Mopsa the Fairy (1869), G. MacDonald's The Country Behind the North Wind (1871), R. Kipling's The Jungle Book (1894), E. Nesbit's The Sand Fairies (1902), K. Grahame's The Good River (1908), J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan and Wendy (Peter Pan) (1911), and W. de la Mare's Three Monkey Princes (1910), while E. Farjeon's Martin Pippin in an Apple Orchard (1921) wove a beautiful fabric of fantasy and reality. Furthermore, AA Milne's Winnie the Pooh (1926) broke new ground, and JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit (1937) and The Lord of the Rings (1954-55) brought fairy tales to their fullest.
