Obaku Kiun

Date of birth and death unknown. A Zen monk from the Tang Dynasty in China. His posthumous name was Dansai Zenji. He was from Min County, Fuzhou (Fujian Province). He became a monk at a young age at Huangbo Mountain in Fuzhou. He was said to have been 7 shaku (about 2.1 meters) tall and had a bead on his forehead. He traveled to Mount Tiantai, and later visited Baizhang Huaihai to inherit the Dharma. He lived at Da'an Temple in Hongzhou (Jiangxi Province), and founded Huangbo Mountain in Gao'an County. At the request of Pei Xiu, the prime minister of the Tang Dynasty, he preached at Longxing Temple and Kaiyuan Temple, which were compiled into the works Denshin Hoyo and Wanling Lu. The central idea of ​​his sermons was "The mind itself is none other than the Buddha." He passed away during the Taichu period (847-860). One of his disciples was Rinzai Gigen.

生没年不詳。中国、唐代の禅僧。諡号(しごう)は断際禅師(だんさいぜんじ)。福州（福建省）閩県(びんけん)の人。若くして福州黄檗山で出家した。身長7尺（約2.1メートル）、額に肉珠があったという。天台山に遊行し、のちに百丈懐海(ひゃくじょうえかい)に参じて嗣法する。洪州(こうしゅう)（江西省）の大安寺に住し、高安県に黄檗山を開創。唐のもと宰相、裴休(はいきゅう)の求めに応じて、竜興寺と開元寺で説法し、それは『伝心法要』『宛陵録(えんりょうろく)』として編集された。説法の中心思想は、「即心是仏(そくしんぜぶつ)（この心そのものが仏にほかならない）」である。大中(たいちゅう)年間（847～860）示寂。弟子に臨済義玄(りんざいぎげん)がいる。
