Eimert, H.

...The following is the birth and development of electronic music in that era. In 1950, in a special studio of the Northwest German Radio in Cologne, West Germany, composer Herbert Eimert (1897-1972) and Werner Meyer-Eppler (1913-60), professor at the Institute of Speech Communication at the University of Bonn, began experiments using the theory of Meyer-Eppler's book "Electrical Sound Generation" published the previous year to control the three elements of sound, pitch, timbre, and intensity, respectively, with oscillators, filters, and amplifiers, and to compose sounds and music with tape recorders, which had just become practical at the time (the other element of sound, duration, was controlled by the length of the tape in this case).
