Its scientific name is derived from the Greek hero Hercules. Large males can reach 180 mm in length, including the long horns on their thorax. Males have a black cephalothorax and yellowish brown elytra with scattered brown spots. Females lack horns, have dense brown hairs on their thorax, and wrinkled elytra with punctuated spots. Body length is around 60 mm. It is found on continents from southern North America to northern South America, and in the West Indies. ...
