A gulf in the northwestern Arabian Sea, between Oman and Iran on the Arabian Peninsula, which serves as the entrance to the Persian Gulf. The gulf is about 320 km wide between Cape Had in Oman and Ghatar Bay on the Iran-Pakistan border. It is connected to the Persian Gulf by the Strait of Hormuz at the head of the gulf. Ports along the gulf include Muscat, Mutrah, Habuura, and Sohar in Oman, and Jask and Chahbahar in Iran. It is an important route for transporting oil between the Persian Gulf countries.
