Acrolein (English spelling)

Acrolein (English spelling)
Also known as acrylaldehyde and probenal. Chemical formula: CH 2 =CHCHO. It exhibits both olefin and aldehyde properties and polymerizes easily. Industrially, it is produced by air oxidation of propylene using copper oxide as a catalyst, but traditionally, it has also been produced using glycerin, acetaldehyde, and formaldehyde as raw materials. Melting point: -87°C, boiling point: 52°C. Soluble in water. If left for a long period of time, it will polymerize and produce a resinous substance. When stored, a small amount of polyphenols are added as an antioxidant. When reduced, it becomes propionaldehyde and then propyl alcohol. The odor of burning fat is due to the presence of acrolein. An intermediate in the production of acrylic acid esters, a raw material for synthetic resins. It is also used in the synthesis of methionine, a liver tonic.

化学式 CH2=CHCHO 。
