…He was a lecturer in 1901, and studied abroad from 1907 to 1911. During his time as a lecturer and graduate student, he studied the interrelationships between magnetization, stress, and strain in ferromagnetic metals under the guidance of Nagaoka Hantaro, the magnetism of binary alloys under G. Tammann (1861-1938) at the University of Göttingen abroad, and the magnetism of 43 individual elements and their temperature changes under H. DuBois (1863-1918) in Berlin. After returning to Japan, he immediately became a professor at the Faculty of Science (newly established) of Tohoku Imperial University, and conducted extensive research into the phase diagram, transformation, and quench-hardening mechanisms of steel using physical research methods such as magnetic analysis and electrical resistance measurements, as well as experimental research into the magnetism of iron-group element compounds, while also pursuing the molecular magnet theory of magnetism. …

…1901年講師，07‐11年外国留学。大学院･講師時代は長岡半太郎の指導下で強磁性金属の磁化，応力，ひずみの相互関係について，外国ではゲッティンゲン大学のタンマンG.Tammann(1861‐1938)のもとで2元合金の磁性，ベルリンではデュボアH.DuBois(1863‐1918)のもとで43種の元素単体の磁性とその温度変化についてそれぞれ研究した。帰国後，ただちに東北帝国大学理科大学(新設)教授となり，磁気分析，電気抵抗測定などの物理学的研究方法を活用した鉄鋼の状態図，変態，焼入硬化機構の研究，鉄属元素化合物の磁性の実験的研究を広範に行うとともに，磁性について分子磁石理論を追求した。…
