… The brass band began in 1844 when A. Sax, the inventor of the saxophone, formed an ensemble of saxhorns in Paris with the help of composer Berlioz. This did not attract much attention in France, but it became a huge hit when John Distin (1793-1863), who had formed a brass quintet with his family in England, adopted it. Distin later became an instrument maker, and made improvements to the instruments to make them suitable for the brass band ensemble style. …

…　ブラス･バンドは1844年にサクソフォーンの発明者A.サックスが，作曲家ベルリオーズの力を借りてサクソルン属による合奏団をパリにつくったことに始まる。これは地元フランスでは注目されなかったが，イギリスで家族による金管五重奏団を組んでいたディスティンJohn Distin(1793‐1863)が取り入れたところ爆発的な流行をみることとなった。ディスティンはその後楽器製造業に転じ，ブラス･バンドの合奏形態に向くよう楽器に改良を加えていった。…
