… The brass band began in 1844 when A. Sax, the inventor of the saxophone, formed an ensemble of saxhorns in Paris with the help of composer Berlioz. This did not attract much attention in France, but it became a huge hit when John Distin (1793-1863), who had formed a brass quintet with his family in England, adopted it.
