...After that, the political center shifted completely to the Delta, and Thebes, as the holy city of Amun, strengthened its status as a religious center. In 950 BC, the Libyan general Sheshonq (Shishak), who had settled there as a mercenary since the Ramesses era, established the 22nd dynasty in Bubastis and occupied Jerusalem, exerting a temporary influence. However, the 23rd to 24th dynasties were established in parallel in Sais, and the level of both politics and culture declined significantly, and some scholars call the 21st to 24th dynasties the "Third Intermediate Period." In the second half of the 8th century BC, an Ethiopian king who rose in Napata in the 4th Nile cataract region conquered Egypt (25th dynasty) and tried to rebuild culture, including reviving the faith in Amun, but in 671 BC, King Taharqa was driven out by the Assyrian king Esarhaddon, and Egypt became part of the Assyrian Empire.
