It is said to be the theory of ED Cope, an American paleontologist at the end of the 19th century (1880), but JB Lamarck also stated this as the first law of evolution in Philosophy of Animals, and C. Dépéret, a French paleontologist who was a contemporary of Cope, also had a similar idea. Cope linked this theory to directed evolution and the inheritance of acquired characteristics, but today this phenomenon is seen as an adaptation or specialization for physiology and movement. …
