...The name "hieratic script" was born because the last hieratic documents were often religious. "Demotic script" appeared around the 7th century BCE. It is a cursive form of hieroglyphics, and the running text is written mainly on papyrus from right to left. The contents include religious and literary matters, but most of them are related to legal and commercial contracts (see figure).
