Lappish - Lappgo (English spelling)

Japanese: ラップ語 - ラップご（英語表記）Lappish

A language belonging to the Finnic group of the Finno-Ugric branch of the Uralic language family. It calls itself Sámi (Saami). It is said to be spoken by about 31,000 Lapps (Sámi) from the northern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula to the Kola Peninsula of the Russian Federation, but there has been no accurate census of the Lapps themselves, so the exact number of speakers is unknown. Dialects are divided into western, southern and eastern dialects, and the differences between them are large. There is a lot of consonant alternation. Examples: varre (mountain), vare (of the mountains), sabme (Lapps), same (Lapps).

ウラル語族のフィン･ウゴル語派のフィン語系に属する言語。自称ではサーミ語(サーメ語)。スカンジナビア半島の北部からロシア連邦のコラ半島にかけ，3万1000人あまりのラップ人(サーミ人)により話されるといわれるが，ラップ人自体の正確な人口調査もなく，正確な話者数は不明である。方言は西，南，東に分かれていて相互の差は大きい。子音の階程交替が盛んである。例：varre〈山が〉，vare〈山の〉，sabme〈ラップ人が〉，same〈ラップ人の〉。
