…French composer, organist and violinist. The most important member of a line of leading French musicians that continued for over 250 years, he was called "Grand Couperin" or "Francois II" to distinguish him from his uncle of the same name, Francois I (c. 1631-1708-12). Francois was born in the lodgings of the church of Saint-Gervais, where his father, Charles II C. (1638-79), was the organist, and he received organ lessons from his father from an early age. When his father died, he was already selected as the successor to the church of Saint-Gervais at the age of 11, but because he was too young, MR Delalande took over the job, and four years later, in 1683, he became the unofficial organist of the church. …

…フランスの作曲家。クラブサン奏者，オルガン奏者。250年以上つづいたフランス有数の音楽家の家系の最大の存在で，同名の伯父フランソア1世(1631ころ‐1708から12)と区別するために〈大クープラン〉とか〈フランソア2世〉と呼ばれる。フランソアは父シャルル2世Charles II C.(1638‐79)がオルガン奏者を務めるサン･ジェルベ教会の宿舎で生まれ，幼少から父にオルガンの手ほどきを受けた。父が死んだとき11歳にして早くもサン･ジェルベ教会の後継者に内定したが，あまりにも若いという理由でM.R.ドラランドが仕事の代行をし，4年後の1683年には非公式ながらこの教会のオルガン奏者となった。…
