Code de la nature (English: Code del nature)

Code de la nature (English: Code del nature)

In his early works, he advocated an educational philosophy based on sensationalism, but in the 1750s, his ideas became more radical and utopian. In his long poem of 14 songs, The Shipwreck of the Floating Island, or Basiliade (published anonymously in 1753), he advocated a society of perfect equality, and in his Code de la nature (published anonymously in 1754), he provided a theoretical justification for Basiliade, criticized private ownership as being contrary to the harmony of God, and developed a vision of a rational, optimistic communist society based on collective education and free of all luxury. Because of its radical nature, Code de la nature was long thought to have been written by Diderot, and it had a great influence on Babeuf and others during the Revolution, but it was not until 1841 that it was given the honor of Morely.
