… AK Cohen's "delinquency subculture theory" discusses the formation and transmission of subcultures specific to delinquent groups as a counterculture to the value system of the American middle class. It complements the heterogeneous contact theory and is also related to anomie theory in that it analyzes the relationship between culture and social structure. RACloward and LE Ohlin's "heterogeneous opportunity structure theory" attempts to integrate Chicago School theory and anomie theory. The Chicago School mainly focuses on access to illegal means, while anomie theory focuses on the possibility of legal means, but both are one-sided, and while individuals may have access to either legal or illegal means, which one they choose is determined by the position in the social structure in which they can use which means. …
