Dog Fern - Dog Fern

A fern of the Pteridaceae family. The hairy rhizome is thin and spreads horizontally, producing densely grown, soft, hairy leaves. The leaf blade is 10-25 cm long and 3-8 cm wide, and is herbaceous. The sporangia are small and located near the edge of the lobes, at the tip of the veins. It is summer-green and is commonly found on cliffs in mountainous areas throughout the country.

イノモトソウ科のシダ。長毛のある根茎は細く、横にはい、軟毛のある葉を密生する。葉身は長さ10～25センチメートル、幅3～8センチメートルで草質。胞子嚢(ほうしのう)群は裂片の縁(へり)に近く、脈の先端につき、小形。夏緑性で、全国の山地の崖(がけ)に普通にみられる。
