…It consists of numerous islands that circle the Caribbean Sea in an arc, and are also called the Caribbean Islands. It is a general term for the Greater Antilles (Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico) and the Lesser Antilles (from the Virgin Islands to the islands off the coast of Venezuela), but these and the Bahamas, southeast of the Florida peninsula, are collectively called the West Indies.
