Erinyes (English spelling)

Greek goddesses of vengeance. They are said to have been born from the earth that was dripping with blood when Cronus cut off the genitals of Uranus. They are usually identified as Alecto, Tisiphone, and Megaera. They have wings, snakes for hair, and use torches to chase sinners and drive them mad. They are also called Eumenides and Semnae as bringers of fertility. They live in the underworld, Tartarus, and in Rome they are called Phliai or Dilai.

ギリシア神話の復讐の女神たち。クロノスがウラノスの局部を切落したときの血のしたたりを受けた大地から生れたとされる。普通はアレクト，ティシフォネ，メガイラの3人とされる。翼をもち，頭髪はへびで，炬火をもって罪人を追い，狂わせる。他面多産豊穣をもたらす者としてエウメニデス，セムナイとも呼ばれる。住居は冥界の底タルタロス，ローマではフリアイ，もしくはディライと呼ばれる。
