Japanese: braces

...they have metal fittings to adjust the length of the strings and holes or clips to fasten to trouser buttons. The word suspenders was used in the United States from the end of the 19th century, while in the UK it referred to stocking clips (or garters) and trouser suspenders were called braces. Until the 1930s, belts were only used for some work trousers, and suspenders were always used for men's trousers.
