Accel - Accelerate

…It is the polar opposite of the faithful reproduction of everyday reality, the “slice of life” (J. Julien) that naturalist theater aims for, and is an allusive and allegorical theater with poetic language and conceptual stories that embody the universal symbolic function of myth. Villiers de l'Isle-Adam's “Axel” (1890) is considered a representative example. To the extent that “dream” is considered the privileged space of such theater, it often takes on the aspect of “dream drama.” In this sense, Maeterlinck's “Princess Maraine” (1889) and “Pelléas et Mélisande” (1893) were also welcomed by the Symbolists because of the “tragic nature of everyday life” that the author himself described as living a “slightly wicked sleepwalker.” …
