The former is usually translated as culture, but when Cicero said that philosophy is cultura animi (cultura of the soul), and when the term cultura mentis (cultura of the mind) was widely used in the Middle Ages following this, the meaning of spiritual upbringing or education is well indicated by this translation culture. …
