…Rákóczi was the son of Zríny Jllona (1643-1703), leader of the anti-Habsburg militia in Transylvania. After his mother was imprisoned in 1686, he was brought up under the protection of the imperial court in Vienna, but in 1694 he returned to his own territory and became involved with anti-Habsburg nobles such as Miklós Bercsényi (1665-1725).
