Bell, Charles

…Charles Bell (1774-1842) discovered in 1811 that the ventral roots of the spinal cord are motor, and then F. Magendie experimentally proved in 1822 that the posterior roots are sensory and the ventral roots are motor. For this reason, this fact is commonly called the Bell–Magendie law.
