Fishing conditions - Gyokyo (English spelling) Fluctuations of catch
Changes in catch volume over time. A large catch is said to indicate good fishing conditions. Fishing conditions can fluctuate over short periods within the same year, or over time. Causes include changes in resource abundance and changes in migration routes due to changes in ocean conditions. The expression "schools of fish gather at the tides" aptly describes the relationship between fishing conditions and ocean conditions. The waters off Japan, the North Sea, and the waters off Newfoundland in North America are said to be the world's three largest fishing grounds, and all of these are areas where warm and cold currents collide. Changes in ocean conditions affect fishing conditions, and abnormal ocean conditions deal a major blow to fishing conditions.
